What To Expect

Su Nuraxi
Your private tourist guide will pick you up at the scheduled time by his comfortable minivan. During the 45 minutes route to Barumini, it will be tell you about the main features of the island and the landscape we will see from the car's windows. Once arrived, we will visit the imposing nuraghe "Su Nuraxi" and its village: an Archaeological complex whose most ancient traces are date back to around the 1500 b.c. We will begin from the village, where you will see various types of housing structures, the round ones, with a central courtyard, that go back to the nuragic period, and the rectangular ones, that belong to the punic-roman period. Noteworthy are a central court house with a spa environment perhaps home to a domestic cult, and the big meeting hut. Then, we will enter the real nuraghe, that can be reached by an iron ladder which leads to a tiny entry, placed at 7 metres of height. There we will visit the central tower, called “mastio”, that originally measured 20 metres in height, and the 4 side towers. The whole of the 5 towers makes a housing complex that, for its grandeur, reminds us of a medieval castle. After the visit to su Nuraxi, you will be taken to the place where your excursion began. The tour can also be enriched by choosing one of the different available options.

Enjoyable, informative, beautiful tour

Alessandro was an excellent guide, passionate about Sardinia and knowledgable - we found the tour enjoyable from beginning to end, and followed up on his recommendations for places to eat later on in our stay.

As we drove through the beautiful countryside to Su Nuraxi Barumini we learned about the island's history and unique points of interest (historic, local geology, some very cool graffiti art) and stories of the villages we passed.

At the archaeological site, Alessandro guided us through the layered history of the site, he managed to bring the ancient spaces to life with his thoughtful explanations. The site is beautiful and unique - its uses span many many years but Alessandro helped us to understand how archaeologists believe the ruins were built and how it might have been used in a digestible and fascinating manner.

I would recommend the tour to friends or anyone visiting Cagliari for a few days. It is out of the ordinary, beautiful, informative and well worth it. You will be glad you went.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend this tour. Su Nuraxi is an absolutely incredible site, and no one interested in history or archaeology should miss it. Our excellent tour guide Alessandro was extremely knowledgable not only about Su Nuraxi but about Sardinia in general. At the site, Alessandro led us up to the top of the highest extant tower, where we could see a view of the entire surrounding village. We then climbed down the original Bronze Age stone stairs to the center of the complex to see the site in detail. It was truly amazing. Thank you Alessandro!
Amazing journey

Alessandro proved to be a fantastic guide on our journey to the Su Nuraxi UNESCO World heritage site. He was not only extremely knowledgeable about the Nuraxi of the Bronze Age, but also truly passionate and immensely proud of this truly fantastic Sardinian heritage. We enjoyed every minute of spending the day with Allesandro!

Our guide was very knowledgeable and obviously focused on presenting a positive tour experience. Barumini was amazing but I could have passed on the tomb. The scenery in the area of the tomb was spectacular, but the tomb itself was a little underwhelming.
